Described by ‘Time Out’ magazine as “the wildcat who made cabaret cool again”, Camille O’Sullivan is in the opinion of many the world’s first lady of charismatic, dark and dramatic theatre, music and performance. A Cork native and now Dublin-based singer and performer this Irish chanteuse, as she is often described, has taken the music and performance worlds by storm performing sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Sydney Opera House and sharing stages with Jarvis Cocker, Martha Wainwright, Marc Almond and Marianne Faithful to name but a few.
This insightful radio documentary will explore Camille’s transition from architect to singer and performer and path from small Dublin venues like The Cobalt Cafe to London’s Roundhouse. With comments from RTE’s John Kelly, Duke Special and Jack L. Produced and presented by Heather MacLeod and made with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. Camille performs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from the 3rd-29th August at Pleasance Grand. Contact 0044 131 556 6550 for bookings and she will be playing main stage at Solfest (27 Aug) and Freedom Festival Hull (2, 3 Sep).

We were joined in studio on the 3rd September by Paul Melia. Two major influencing factors in Paul's musical development were his somewhat aborted classical training alongside the fact that he is synaesthestic (Synaesthesia: a neurologically-based phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway). Pauls synaesthesia is everywhere evident in his music and the album title is a direct reference to the colourful world of sound which Paul inhabits. Paul explained more about this to us and also talked about his album. Listen to the interview here and also 2 of his tracks. The video version of the interview is at

"Homelessness in Ireland" sets out to investigate homelessness in Ireland. We look at the stereotypes, the people, the strategies to eliminate homelessness and the stories. What is being done to combat homelessness by the different bodies and voluntary organisations around the country? Do all homeless people want a ‘normal’ life? What drives someone to become homeless? Is it easy to work yourself and your image out of homelessness? Why do some young people find themselves in such a miserable and alone state? Why do middle-aged people contract all sorts of infections and diseases, and could not care less, it seems? Why do some people feel safer on a bench than in a hostel? How do people end up on the street; is there a common trend behind this phenomenon? And in this age of the “Celtic-Tiger” in such a modern society and culture present in Ireland today, why is there homelessness in this country at all?
I interviewed Sharon Shannon toward the end of 2009 for Dublin City FM radio and we discussed her album "Saints and Scoundrels" an eclectic and collaborative record available in all good music stores....
